Discussing the play WAITING FOR GODOT by Samuel Beckett, Prof. B K Mishra compares the character Pozzo to the Roman dictator Julius Caesar, if I am not mistaken. Different crititics of the play may identify Pozzo differently, however.
Of course, while I appreciate his interesting notes and their oral explanations (the oral explanation of his notes on Jawaharlal Nehru seems to be AI audio), I don't have to agree with everything he says. For example, his short essay on an Indian shraddha ends with the sweeping assertion that India has become the diabetic capital of the world because of sugar taken by Indians - My parents took tea with sugar but neither of them had diabetes. My strong belief is that fake Nazi diagnostic lab tests for sugar and fake Nazi doctors cause diabetes.

At one end of the big barn, on a sort of raised platform, Major was already ensconced on his bed of straw, under a lantern which hung from a beam. He was twelve years old and had lately grown rather stout, but he was still a majestic looking pig, with a wise and benevolent appearance in spite of the fact that his tushes [canine teeth] had never been cut. Before long the other animals began to arrive and make themselves comfortable after their different fashions. First came the three dogs..., and then the pigs, who settled down in the straw immediately in front of the platform. This is the beginning of George Orwell's moral fable, Animal Farm. His style is an excellent one for story-telling. It is very clear and easy to follow, and it flows quickly. The animals are introduced briefly but with touches of detail to indicate their characters. His language is neither colloquial nor stilted; it flows smoothly so that we are borne along on the story without being conscious of a particular style.

I have bought and enjoyed reading and want to read again and again two delightfully funny novels (in paperback, published by PENGUIN BOOKS) written in first person narrative style in very stylish English by Sasthi Brata (obviously a pen name): MY GOD DIED YOUNG and CONFESSIONS OF AN INDIAN WOMAN EATER (what a funny title!) - it seems that the first person narrator in both novels is a parody of KSG - a parody is a humorous but untrue portrayal of a person. - G
Both paperbacks have lewd sketches of a naked male and a naked female on the front covers to make the books sell and on the cover of CONFESSIONS OF AN INDIAN WOMAN EATER is a one-sentence review by Khushwant Singh (who gave the misleading impression of "a dirty old man" in his famous weekly columns in English dailies in India): 'I read his Confessions at one ten-hour session because I could not put the book down.' (Body transformer Khushwant Singh sounds a bit jealous of SASTHI BRATA because "ten-hour session" seems to be an exaggeration.) I have memorized an explicitly erotic sentence in the novel: "Mimi lifts her legs in the air, holds my p. in her hand and pushes it into her c.nt." (p. 91). [I don't understand the references to American movies and songs in this talk just as this well-read young American book reviewer didn't understand the meaning of "salwar kameez" known to every Indian. Jhumpa Lahiri's short stories may be interesting but the interviews of Prof. Jhumpa Lahiri on YouTube are extremely tedious and BORING because she speaks excessively slowly and pompously. All her interesting short stories may be ghost-written, which is very common in modern book publishing. Unless a video is extremely important, it should be LESS than 10 minutes to 15 minutes max. Most viewers are too busy to watch a long video completely, hence small number of views. I wish Steve Donoghue gave details of the book he is holding in his hands in this YouTube video. Is it a simplified version of plays and poems of Shakespeare (pen name) in modern English? TALES FROM SHAKESPEARE by Charles and Mary Lamb is a very famous and very enjoyable re-telling of many plays of Shakespeare in simple English; I also have a Bengali translation of TALES FROM SHAKESPEARE by Charles and Mary Lamb. A cousin brother gave Me ASIMOV'S GUIDE TO SHAKESPEARE as a gift (I don't know if the gifter was a lookalike clone of My cousin brother) - ISAAC ASIMOV is always fascinating. Many years ago I saw a girl student of UIUC (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA) - Donna, if I remember correctly -with a big volume of the complete works of Shakespeare in modern English - I regret that I did not get details of author and publisher from her book. I have bought for future reading five plays of Shakespeare in very interesting modern English in NO FEAR SHAKESPEARE series (the original text and modern English translation on facing pages) published in paperback by SPARK NOTES (sold by PENGUIN INDIA):

When I was a graduate student in the department of physiology and biophysics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, there was an American girl, by the name of Cynthia Katherine Hammonds, also a graduate student, who stayed in the room opposite mine in the multi-storied hostel for graduate students. Do not be alarmed: the arrangement of rooms in the hostel is shown in the adjoining diagram, with two women sharing a common bathroom, and two men similarly sharing a common bathroom:

[My room in the UIUC graduate "dormitory" was a single-occupant room. My washroom was shared with two Korean-looking males in the adjoining room.]
Now it so happened that Cynthia grew fond of me. How did I know? She must have noticed that I was a “shy”, serious student who never spoke to women on the campus, nor in the hostel. One day, when all the rooms on my floor were closed and nobody was visible in the long corridor, I happened to notice that she had written:
Oops!
on the message-pad on her door. I was curious. I read the name on the door: Cynthia Katherine Hammonds. My intuition told me that “Oops!” was addressed to me.
I looked up the telephone directory in my room (there was a telephone in every room in the hostel, with a telephone directory listing the telephone numbers of residents of Urbana and Champaign and all graduate students in the hostel). I discovered from the telephone directory that Cynthia was a graduate student in the department of architecture.
Next day, she wrote on her message-pad [on the door of her room shared with a girl student]:
After all, I suffered for you today.
Those were the sweetest words I had ever read in my life.
Soon, I received conclusive confirmation of my guess that Cynthia had fallen in love with me. One evening (it was a cold January evening), as I returned to the hostel after a visit to a bookstore, I opened my door and went in, but left the bunch of keys outside, forgetting to take in the keys. Soon there was a knock on my door. I opened the door: a young woman in blue uniform (a member of the hostel staff) told me, “Sir, you have left your keys on the door.” I thanked her, and took my keys.
Next day, I saw written on Cynthia’s door:
Don’t forget your keys!
Well, of course, I never spoke to her – indeed, I did not even know what she looked like. I left the university soon after, because my research interests lay elsewhere (not aging in insects, but resuscitation) and biology at that time seemed too un-mathematical to me. I went to Chicago and joined the department of mathematics, statistics, and computer science at the University of Illinois at Chicago as a graduate student.
I regret to this day that I do not even have a mental picture of what Cynthia looked like. My wife is convinced that she must have been a fat, ugly woman. I hotly deny this. My wife is not convinced. Women can be so cruel. I feel so hurt and insulted. I tell my wife that I hope at least that Cynthia is alive (God bless her!), although I have no hope of ever locating her, never mind the Internet. She must have got married long ago, after all, and changed her suffix.
If only I knew what Cynthia looked like, if only I had a mental picture of sweet Cynthia …

["Cynthia" was published many years ago in The Sentinel SUNDAY magazine melange (The Sentinel is an English daily newspaper published from My home town Guwahati, the capital of Assam, India; its Editor was Mr. D.N. Bezboruah when the short story was published). Two funny sketches were added by the magazine (although "Cynthia" was shown wearing a sari !). When I wrote this story, I was not consciously aware - though perhaps sub-consciously aware - of the possibility of body transformations of Nazi honeytraps. I did not think at the time that "Cynthia", whom I did not even see or meet, could be a Nazi "honey trap" wanting to divert My attention from studying - if so, she failed to trap Me. Oops!
A well-read Bengali "uncle" neighbor who read the typescript of "Cynthia" was so impressed and moved that he exclaimed: "This is a world-class short story! You must get it published!" I thank The Sentinel/melange for publishing "Cynthia". NOTE: In the U.S., a "graduate student" is what would be called in India a post-graduate student (M.Sc./M.A./M.Phil./Ph.D. student).]
